Are Portable Restrooms Cleaner Than Public Bathrooms?

Clean public restrooms seem to only exist in movies and TV shows. But one you step out your house, all you find are dirty bathroom in public. This happens because public restrooms see a lot more traffic than residential ones. In fact, they are almost always in use. This leads to these public toilets becoming unsanitary more quickly than you can imagine.

On the other hand, portable restroom trailers are considered to be a much cleaner alternative. But is that true or just a marketing scheme? Read on to learn more.

Are Portable Restrooms More Sanitary?

The truth is that there is no definitive answer to this question. It is true that most well-maintained portable restrooms can be quite sanitary, and that individual bathrooms can be much worse than most portable restrooms. However, it all comes down to how well the portable restroom is maintained. Practically speaking, there is no design reason that portable restrooms should be cleaner or dirtier than regular public toilets.

If a public restroom receives regular maintenance around the clock, they can be as clean as the unit in your home. In fact, most toilets in high end hotels and restaurants tend to be much cleaner than the residential toilets.

However, in general terms, it is less likely for the average public restroom to be maintained with such care. Therefore, you are more likely to run into a public restroom that you’d rather not use than one that smells of lavender and roses.

On the other hand, most portable restrooms more often than not come with an attendant whose job is to ensure that everything stays as clean as possible.

Therefore, it ultimately depends on how well the public toilet or portable restrooms is maintained. However, you are much more likely to run into a clean portable restroom than a clean public toilet.
