The Rubell Family Collection (RFC)
The History: Miami, Florida
Ever since its exhibition in 1993 of repurposed confiscated goods from the Drug Enforcement Agency— the RFC established itself as a contemporary art museum. Therefore, Mera and Don Rubell then built the Contemporary Arts Foundation in 1994 alongside their son, Jason Rubell. Together the Rubells embarked on their mission to break through the barriers of contemporary art.
As such, the museum itself is constantly expanding, breaking its own barriers to display diverse works. For example, the RFC procures internationally prominent artists while also exhibiting emerging artists. Additionally giving visitors the opportunity to witness art that has quite literally never been seen before.
The exhibitions produced by the collection each year are unique and diverse therefore, so is their content. Recently, the collection featured the exhibition: No Man’s Land. No Man’s Land focused on the celebration of the Rubells’ collection of female artists. The art displayed featured pieces of different generations, mediums, and thus cultures. The exhibition successfully displayed the intricacy and development of female artists. This is seen through the unique color, shape, and form of the art presented.
